Stephen Charles Stutler

Stephen Charles Stutler, 86, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him most.

Born on August 6, 1940, in Akron, Ohio, Steve was a proud graduate of Akron East High School and later earned his degree from the University of Akron. Steve dedicated many years of his life to both his career and his community. In addition to his work at DuPont, he proudly served as Fire Chief of the Towanda Fire Department throughout the 1970s and 1980s. His leadership, courage, and commitment to helping others left a lasting impact on those he served. He later retired from DuPont in 1999 and devoted himself wholeheartedly to supporting his beloved wife, Elizabeth, in her ministry and calling.

Steve and Elizabeth shared a remarkable love story that inspired all who knew them. Together, they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on August 16, 2026. Their marriage was a testament to faith, commitment, and enduring love, showing everyone around them that true love is real.

Steve was an avid hunter, talented gunsmith, and a man who rarely met a stranger. He was known for his quick wit, encouraging words, and unwavering support of his family and friends. No matter the circumstance, he always seemed to have a joke to share, wisdom to offer, or a way to brighten someone's day. His kindness, strength, and steadfast presence left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sophrona Rebecca Pepper Stutler and Ernest Lynn Stutler, and his brother, Richard Stutler.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Stutler; his daughters, Stephanie Copek and her husband, John Copek, of Towanda, Pennsylvania; Rebecca Gowin and her husband, Tracy Gowin, of Pennsylvania; and Sarah Jefferies of Youngstown, Ohio. He is also survived by his sisters, Susan Ward and Nancy Tesmer of Ocala, Florida. He leaves behind five cherished grandchildren (Morgan, Angela, Zachary, Ariana, and Alvin) and four treasured great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

Steve was surrounded by the love of his family throughout his final days. Though their hearts are broken by his loss, they find comfort in the countless memories he created, the lessons he taught, and the love he freely gave throughout his life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date in Towanda, Pennsylvania. Details will be announced by the family once arrangements have been finalized.

His legacy of faith, devotion, humor, and unconditional love will live on through his family and all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
