Jerry Lee Ray

On Tuesday,  August 25, 2026, Jerry Lee “Bunny” Ray, age 76, passed away surrounded by loved ones at his home in New Waterford, OH, after a long illness. He was born December 9, 1949, in Salem, OH, to James and Ruth (Rupert) Ray.

He graduated from Crestview High School and later served in the Army, carrying forward a life marked by commitment and steady purpose. Jerry was a lifetime member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2415. He was especially known for the central role horses played in his life. He gave himself fully to every part of working with them, including breeding and training, and he won many races along the way. Horses were one of his greatest passions throughout the years and, aside from his family, the love of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Shirley (Kirby) Ray; his sons, James Ray and Beau (Stephanie Jeffers) Ray; and his three grandchildren, Carter, Makenna, and Nolan Ray.

Besides his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Blaine Ray.

Throughout his life, Jerry was closely connected to the people and responsibilities that mattered most to him. His family, his military service, and the work that brought him pride and joy remained central parts of his life. Those who knew him will remember the enduring place he held in their lives and the many stories and memories that continue in his name.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2026,  from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the New Waterford Eagles.
